More than simply ordering and stocking
Optimizing your inventory is more than simply ordering and placing it on the shelf. It comes with a variety of small but important questions. For example, you may find yourself asking:
Will everything fit into the allocated space?
Does the storage plan meet OSHA requirements?
What storage components are best suited to my unique inventory?
Does our current inventory plan incorporate 5S best practices?
How much inventory do I need vs how much I have?
How much "just in case" inventory or "I bought it in bulk" inventory do I own?
Decades of experience in warehouse management and inventory optimization
These questions can be overwhelming, especially if this is not what you do every day. We’re here to help! Our team of professionals has decades of experience in warehouse management and inventory optimization. We’ll help you get control of your inventory so you can start reaping the rewards of an optimized inventory right away.
What Is Inventory Optimization?
Inventory optimization is having the right product in the right place at the right time… not too much, not too little. PM2 can step in and provide a number of services to help you optimize your inventory.
Great inventory management starts with a great warehouse design. Warehouse design is about so much more than just deciding what to put where. Knowing which items are fast or slow moving, and which are frequently used in combination with others, will give you a good start, but what about lead time to replace an item? Which parts are critical to keeping the plant up and running? What does OSHA have to say about storing your products? Does it require special handling? What is the best way to secure your inventory against pilferage? Answers to these questions will have a direct effect on the space you allocate, how, and where you store your inventory. You don’t have to be an expert on all of these subjects, not with PM2 available to do it for you. Let PM2 apply our knowledge and hands-on experience to the design of your warehouse so you can focus on the things you do best.
Another service PM2 provides is CAD drawings, either of your current space or any space that you plan on using. Creating these drawings ensures that we can design your warehouse for maximum physical and process efficiency. Our team has an eye for details, whether it be finding ways to maximize storage per square inch, space to walk by while a drawer is open, or ensuring there’s enough room to turn your forklift. These seemingly small things will make a huge difference in your productivity!
The sheer amount of storage options available is staggering, and it’s hard to decide which is best for your specific inventory needs. PM2 takes many factors into consideration including your specific inventory, the space available, storage unit quality vs cost vs weight, size, and quantity of your inventory. PM2 will determine how many uprights will you need to service the specific shelving you are choosing , and all of the other questions that you haven't even thought of, yet. Whether you are relocating, consolidating, or reorganizing your inventory, PM2 will develop a storage plan designed uniquely for your business.
Are you ready for your next OSHA audit? If not, PM2 can help. You may not be aware of which items in your warehouse have special requirements, but we know these specifications inside and out. Not everyone is an expert in OSHA requirements. We are here to get you OSHA compliant and keep you that way.
Having the same product housed in multiple locations across your warehouse is inefficient and costly. Grouping products by commodity, or “family grouping”, puts all “like items” together with one product per location and one location per product. This means that you can easily find them again, track their movement in and out of stock, and know how many should be on the shelf vs. how many are actually there. Replenishment is a breeze, too, since you don’t have to walk the entire warehouse to restock the shelves. While family grouping may be a great way to organize for efficiency, actually getting the product moved can be an insurmountable task for many businesses. PM2 can help get you family grouped quickly so you can begin to reap the benefits right away.
